Easy Formula to Find out Your Daily Amount

Why do People find it Hard to Drink more Water?

The body is between 65-85% water and most people know they should be drinking more, so why don’t they?

Here are some common reasons I hear:

  • Not a fan of water.
  • Water has no taste.
  • It will make me pee too much.
  • Forget to drink it.
  • Do not feel thirsty.
  • No time.
  • Temperature regulation in hot weather.
  • Would rather drink soda, coffee, and other liquids.
How Much Water Do YOU Need

We all do things we do not necessarily like to do, and if you are not drinking enough water, it is time to start getting into a new habit. Before you know it, you will be drinking it without even thinking about it, like when you brush your teeth. And, your bladder will get used to it if you start small and increase gradually.

Even if you enjoy water are you getting enough? Or maybe too much?

Just as we are all different shapes and sizes our water needs differ from individual to individual. Your daily requirement depends on age, lifestyle, activity level, climate. It is possible to drink too much water so be sure to adjust according to your needs.

Water is the essence of life, bringing health to the cells, the body, and mind.

Easy Calculation to Determine Your Personal Daily Water Needs

Divide your body weight by two, the total is the number of ounces your body requires each day to function at its fullest.

To get the number of cups you need each day, Divide the Total Number of Ounces by 8.

For example:

165 LBS divided by 2 = 82.5 (82.5 ounces per day)

82.5 divided by 8 (8 ounces in 1 cup) = 10.31 (10 cups per day)

Therefore, someone who weighs 165 pounds requires 10 cups of water per day.

Note: If you have a high activity level or spend a long time outside in the heat you will need more water. And it is important to replenish electrolyte loss.

Coffee: every coffee consumed requires two cups of additional water, that is on top of daily water needs.

This is a general equation and does not replace medical advice. If you have any health condition, seek advice from your primary health care professional.

Tips on Getting More Water in Your Daily Diet

  • Drink room temperature water. Cold drinks constrict and slow down digestion.
  • Feeling hungry, drink a glass of water, you may simply be thirsty.
  • Add flavor: lemon/ lime wedge, fruit slices or berries, add herbs like fresh mint alone or with fruit.
  • Add Liquid Chlorophyll to your water daily for more energy, natural mint flavor, green inside clean inside, energy
  • Lemon Ginger Honey Tea: morning kick start, boil water, pour in the mug, add the juice of wedge to ½ lemon, grated ginger, tsp of raw/ unpasteurized honey.
  • Keep a 1 Litre (4 cups) glass flask of water on your counter or desk and consume it during the day. If it is sitting there in front of you chances are you will consume it. We all get busy and don’t have time or forget to refill a glass, so if you have a litre or two ready, it is easy to top up your cup.
Liquid Chlorophyll
  • In the cooler months keep a 6 or 12 pack of water in your vehicle, you never know when you will need it.
  • On that note, always have water on you. I love the reusable bottles that keep hot liquids hot and cool liquids cool so it doesn’t matter what the temperature is outside.
  • Do what works for you to create the habit of drinking water.

Note: Like anything, drinking an adequate amount of water for daily needs becomes a habit. It takes 21 days to form a habit. Please note if you currently consume less than 4 cups a day, start slow and increase gradually so your body can get used to the fluid coming in. Increase by one cup every week.
