Holistic nutrition is based on whole food in its natural state rich in nutrients that fuel and repair the body. Proper nutrition is a vital component to achieve and maintain good health.
Nutrition not only includes what we eat and drink, but how we digest, assimilate and utilize those foods, and that can vary significantly from person to person.
We truly are what we eat. We are also what we believe, think, and choose as a course of action with every decision. Food choices affect our health on every level. Food can be nourishing or depleting, energizing or cause fatigue, help lift mood or add to already depressed feelings, satisfy cravings or cause cravings, satiate or bring on ravenous appetite, heal or cause illness. That is why holistic nutrition in my opinion is Whole-istic Nutrition or Whole-ism, encompassing all areas of life.
“Nutrition is the only remedy that can bring full recovery and can be used with any treatment. Remember, food is our best medicine”. Bernard Jensen
The body is fascinating, it will do the best it can with what it is given. We have trillions of cells that are replaced every second. If we eat an orange our cells will get the nutrients from that orange. If we eat a greasy burger on a white bun and fries, what do our cells get? Nutrient deficient! What eventually happens to long term nutrient-deficient cells? They create more unhealthy cells. Too many unhealthy cells lead to dis-ease (the body not at ease, lack of balance in the body or homeostasis).
An example of the power of food for healing was proven when Scottish naval surgeon James Lind discovered that a nutrient (vitamin C) in citrus foods prevented scurvy in 1747.
It is knowing what foods are the best medicine for you personally, and having a healthy gut so that your body can function at its best.
Disease begins in the gut, Hippocrates
Every-body is biochemically unique, therefore, our needs will change from individual to individual. Our needs are also affected by where we live, how we feel; not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too, how our bodies deal with daily/ long term stress, what we eat, drink, and much more. Health is not based on one aspect, our body, mind, emotions, and spirit are all connected, and true wellness is felt when these are all in balance or homeostasis.
To assist the body in repair, rejuvenation we can add additional micro-nutrition to the diet. Most people are not getting 10-13 servings of fresh organic or wild berries, fruits, and vegetables. This is where micro-nutrition full of dense nutrition, over 30 fruits, berries, and veggies can help fill the gaps. I have partnered with Juice Plus+ to help the body improve nutrient intake and absorption, therefore, improving health.
